Ecology, Economy and Ethics is a final-year Business Management UG module exploring what it means to act responsibly within the complex social, economic and ecological systems that shape organisational life. The campus is located in Nanhai, near the Yellow Sea in China. A central focus of the module was the idea of love as an actionable ethical framework. Drawing particularly on the work of bell hooks, students considered love not as sentiment, but as a practice of care, honesty, responsibility, respect and courage within management.
Students developed and tested facilitated activities with first-year students on topics including consumption, technology, food systems and sustainability. Through this process, they learned that responsible management is not simply about controlling outcomes or providing the right answers. It also involves creating conditions in which people can think critically, recognise hidden harms, engage with different perspectives and make ethical judgements under uncertainty.
